Cheese Grits

Salt or Sugar Grits?

I was always on Team Sugar Grits until I make this recipe and began to question all that I thought I knew about food and cooking. This recipe is a great savory girt recipe and it will pair great with protein and vegetables. I have eaten this recipe with fish, eggs, and beef with an assortment of vegetables. This is a very versatile recipe that can easily transition from breakfast lunch and dinner. If you like a little spice add some jalapeno peppers to this recipe to kick it up a few notches.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water

  • 1/2 cup Old fashion Grits

  • 1/2 tsp chopped Garlic

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 2 slices Thick Slice Cheddar Cheese

  • Salt to taste

  • Black Pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Add 2 cups of water to the pot over medium heat. Add Grits and Garlic to the pan and stir occasionally. Cook for 10-12 minutes

  2. Add Milk to the pan and stir occasionally. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes

  3. Cut each slice of cheese into quarters (4 equal pieces) and add to the pot. Stir frequently until all cheese is melted.

  4. Salt and pepper to taste

  5. Enjoy warm, as grits cool it will thicken.
